With the strong local running community in Charlottesville, we hoped that we could find a runner to provide encouragement to our girls. And we found a great one–Sophie Spiedel, a local guidance counselor and mom who runs Ultra Marathons and competes in many elite running activities. Sophie has agreed to share her experiences with our girls.
This year we plan to have spring and fall seasons, and to start a program for the young boys who all fall had clambered to participate. They will participate in “Let Me Run,” a boys program based on the GOTR model. These programs will cost us $15,000 for the year, and we have a kick-off gift of $2,500–so our fundraising goal is $12,500.
We have launched a new crowd funding site, called “Build a Running Program for the Children of Friendship Court.” Sophie has generously agreed to help us raise money by sharing the site with her many friends in the running community. We hope you will share this site too. Share this link on your Facebook page. Click here to visit the site and make a donation or join the fundraising team. Let’s get these great kids running toward a healthier future!!
