Piedmont Housing Alliance is a developer because our region needs additional affordable housing options.
For our development activity, we are certified by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). This makes us eligible for certain federal and state funds, and brings tax dollars back to work in our community.
As a CHDO, Piedmont Housing has been involved in affordable housing development in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. These include preservation and/or creation of apartment complexes dedicated to serving families, the elderly and disabled persons, as well as revitalization of neighborhoods, including 10th and Page and Fifeville, through scattered-site development.
In partnership with local non-profit and for-profit developers and builders, Piedmont Housing has built more than 64 single family homes. We also have participated in the development or rehabilitation of 500 rental homes in our multi-family projects, and offer ongoing property management services for over 350 of these homes.
