Piedmont Housing Alliance is now accepting AmeriCorps Economic Mobility Corps Member applications for the 2023/2024 service year!

The LISC AmeriCorps Economic Mobility Corps (EMC) program supports Community Development Financial Institutions (like Piedmont Housing Alliance) in working one-on-one and in small groups with people in their communities to help them gain increased financial knowledge and thereby be able to purchase or maintain safe, decent, healthy affordable housing. LISC AmeriCorps EMC members serve full-time for 12 months.

PHA EMC Member Position Description

Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA) is looking for a focused individual to commit to one year of community service as an AmeriCorps Economic Mobility Corps Member at our Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) + Housing Hub. The FOC + Housing Hub model is an integrated approach to offering services, including eviction prevention, affordable housing navigation, financial and employment coaching, and benefits navigation — all aimed at building economic resilience and expanding affordable housing choices for families. The EMC Member will provide financial coaching and employment coaching to lower-income and working-class residents, especially BIPOC households, who aspire to climb the financial ladder by increasing their incomes, improving their credit scores, enhancing their money management skills, increasing savings, reducing debts, building assets, and potentially becoming homeowners.

Requirements for Applicants

  • Be at least 17 years old and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED, or at least commit to obtaining a GED during your year of service
  • Complete a criminal history check.  (The presence of a criminal record does not necessarily disqualify an applicant.)
  • Participate in all training and cohort meetings hosted by the program
  • Participate in national days of service throughout the year
  • Have an interest in & ability to work with diverse groups of people, including residents of disinvested neighborhoods
