There’s Opportunity in August

It’s a new month and that means new classes from our Housing Counseling and financial services team. This month, we are excited to kick off our newest virtual series, Financial Bootcamp.

For the next five months, we will be hosting once-monthly Financial Bootcamp.

The series kicks off Wednesday, August 19, with Financial Boot Camp 101: Personal Finances and Income. During this first session, participants will explore how to maintain personal finances and income – including budgeting – and more. Other topics for the series include:

• September 16: Financial Boot Camp 102 – Savings & Credit Scores Register
• October 21: Financial Boot Camp 201 – Saving & Goal Setting Register
• November 18: Financial Boot Camp 202 – Building Your Credit Register
• December 16: Financial Boot Camp 203 – Predatory Lending Register

Virginia Individual Development Account Program

During August we will also hold two Virginia Individual Development Account (VIDA) program overviews. The VIDA program is a matched savings program to help Virginians save for a down payment or closing cost for a home. The program matches every dollar you put in with $8. They will match up to $4,000. If you save $500, VIDA will match that with $4,000 and you will have $4,500 to use for a down payment or closing cost for a home.

The overview sessions will be held August 12 and 14.
