Virginia Leary’s Work Featured in The Bridge, HUD’s National Housing Counseling Newsletter
Piedmont Housing Alliance’s housing counselor, Virginia Leary, recently was asked to present a class at the University of Virginia’s Naval ROTC Unit (NROTC) after fifteen of their officers graduated and prepare for life after college.
Virginia has been a housing counselor with Piedmont Housing Alliance for almost two years and is a Certified Military Home Specialist with expert training that can help military families access available loans and other tools to help their financial well-being. As a military spouse herself, Virginia enjoys sharing real life experience that can help others.
In her recent class on personal finance, Virginia focused on explaining the nuances of managing finances while serving on active duty. Specifically, she covered the importance of reading and understanding the leave and earnings statement, contributing to and managing a thrift savings plan, understanding and comparing different retirement savings products and being financially prepared for the frequent moves required by the military. Virginia also took plenty of time to explain the pros and cons of renting versus buying.
Virginia’s experience working with many individuals and families as well as those in the military, has helped hundreds acquire the tools they need to feel empowered and ready to tackle almost any financial challenge!
