Celebrating our Property Maintenance Team As Piedmont Housing Alliance Grows
As the summer starts and our portfolio of nine properties increases to more than 350 units, we want to take a minute to say thanks to the team that cares for them. Piedmont Housing Alliance and Alliance Management is fortunate to employ talented, hard-working professionals who make up our maintenance crew.
Karen Reifenberger says, “We are so proud of this team, who are highly skilled not only in property maintenance and repairs but also in customer service. They are such an important part of our mission to deliver high-quality affordable housing opportunities. Thank you, Derick, Nathan, Travis, and Landus!”
Derick Powe is a maintenance technician who has been with Piedmont Housing Alliance / Alliance Management for two years. Derick worked at a commercial architectural firm as a project superintendent and project manager for 12 years, then owned his own construction framing company while living in Florida until he moved to Charlottesville.
Derick is married and father to four girls. He enjoys getting to know people, playing basketball, and teaching Bible school.
Nathan Smoot is also a maintenance technician who has worked with Piedmont Housing Alliance / Alliance Management for the past two years. Prior to that, Nathan worked as maintenance supervisor for an apartment complex in Lynchburg, Va. He has more than 35 years of maintenance experience and says he is still learning. Nathan enjoys making senior tenants “feel safe and secure and seeing them smile because we all will get older someday too.”
Nathan has been married for 36 years, has two children and one precious granddaughter and says he looks forward to more grandchildren. Nathan also enjoys NASCAR racing, football, and riding his motorcycle.
Travis Hudson worked as a maintenance technician for a company managing 13 rental homes before coming to work for Piedmont Housing Alliance / Alliance Management in February of this year. As a maintenance technician, he has experience working in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and drywall. He says, “I enjoy working for Piedmont Housing Alliance because I still get a chance to learn something new every day. I love that the tenants like me and enjoy talking to me. I am always hearing stories about the tenants’ younger years and all the stories about the veterans.” Travis describes himself as a happy-go-lucky guy who loves to work and learn and enjoys new challenges. He has a daughter, Hailey, who he says is the best thing that has happened to him. They like fishing, swimming and enjoying nature together.
Landus Banks has worked as a porter at Piedmont Housing Alliance / Alliance Management for the past two years. His prior experience includes Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge dining services, McDonald’s management, and UVa security. Landus says he enjoys working with his co-workers who are ready and willing to help when needed. Landus is upbeat and hopeful despite suffering through some personal health issues in the past. He encourages others to stay strong, striving to be the best that they can be in life.
