Meet Joy Pugh, Board Member
Joy Pugh has been a member of the board since 2010. A job opportunity initially brought Joy to Charlottesville in 2005, and her first experience with Piedmont Housing was as a first-time homebuyer. The nonprofit’s housing counselors assisted her when she was purchasing a property built by the Alliance.
During her years as a board member, Joy has been inspired by seeing the numerous ways Piedmont Housing enables Charlottesville-area community members to secure a home, whether through purchase, rental, refinancing, or building. Joy is especially proud of the quality of the properties Piedmont Housing has built or revitalized. “They are safe, clean, beautiful, energy-efficient properties in which residents can live a good life,” she says.
Joy completed the City of Charlottesville’s Neighborhood Leadership Institute in 2013 and is an active member of the board of the Virginia College Access Network (VCAN). In addition, she serves as Director of the Virginia College Advising Corps, a statewide college access program for low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation college students. She is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte and earned a master’s degree from James Madison University.
