Welcome to Victoria (Tori) Carter-Johnston, Manager of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion!
Tori joined Piedmont Housing Alliance as a Mentor for the JEDI Youth Ambassador Project and has expanded her role as Manager of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (M-JEDI).
In addition to her passion about human rights issues, Tori brings with her a wealth of education and experience in serving the community toward the eradication of otherness. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Afro-American Studies where she served as Co-Legislative Director for March For Our Lives which is a community empowerment movement to fight against the increasing prevalence of gun violence in America.
While serving in the Communication and Writing Program for the Congressional Research Service, Tori contributed to congressional spotlight stories, drafted articles, and developed infographics. During her time with the Office of Senator Creigh Deeds, she contributed to both legislative research and constituent casework with a focus on elevating community voices. In her work with the University of Virginia Equity Center, Tori created policies and procedures, developed the Equity Center extranet, provided research support, and created the proposal and design for the Equity Center Ambassador Program.
“I can’t wait for the world to see the exponential impact Tori will have in our work toward becoming an anti-racist organization. I have watched in amazement as she developed policies and procedures with ease. I have enjoyed in awe as she demonstrated her commitment to empowering youth with empathy and compassion. Our ability to Walk the Talk as an anti-racist organization has grown by leaps and bounds with Tori now as a member of our team.” Melody Jackson, Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
