Are Affordable Rentals A Thing of the Past?
We know rental costs are high in Charlottesville, but apparently we are not alone. Nationwide, more than half of renters have “unaffordable” rental costs, meaning they pay more than 30% of their income for housing. And the figures get worse–more than one quarter (27%) of renters are paying more than 50% of their income for housing. All those percentages translate into millions of families who have less than half their salary left over to pay all the rest of their bills. It’s an unsustainable trend, and many policy makers are thinking about how to address this issue. Read this list of suggestions from the Center for American Change.
