Cities and Suburbs Ain’t What they Used to Be

Charlottesville is not the only city where in-town housing is in great demand.  According to UVA’s Weldon Cooper Center, the prosperous suburban “donut” around a decaying urban core no longer describes the shape of American cities.  As reported in an article from USAToday, a researcher with the Cooper Center’s Demographics Research Group has assembled data showing that millenials are often choosing to live in the city. As a result, the aging housing stock in the suburbs is now home to older and poorer Americans.
