Old Friends with New Ideas
It was great to welcome back Katie Swenson, who worked with Piedmont Housing from 2002-2005 as a Rose Fellow following her graduation from UVA School of Architecture. During her time here, she played a central role in the 10th and Page revitalization, and also found time to establish the Community Design Center and oversee an international competition for the design of affordable housing.
Katie is now the Vice President for Community Design Initiatives for Enterprise Community Partners, where she oversees all the current Rose Fellows. She came back to share with our Board of Directors her national perspective on the role of design and the importance of good process in redevelopment of affordable housing properties. It gave us all a lot to think about, and an excitement about the possibilities for affordable housing here in our community.
