Meet Steve Nichols, Board Member
Steve Nichols has served on Piedmont Housing Alliance’s board of directors since 2015. A native of Wisconsin, Steve lived in many places around the world during his 36 years of military service, finally settling with his wife in the Charlottesville area, in 2007, to be close to their daughter and her family. During his military career, Steve served as a health care administrator, and commanded Navy hospitals. Steve has served as County Administrator for Fluvanna County since 2012, following his 2009 retirement as a Navy Captain.
From his current vantage point in rural Fluvanna, Steve notes that “we are in need of affordable housing options and few options are available. By being involved with Piedmont Housing, I have the opportunity to learn about options, possible solutions, and work to strengthen our community’s ability to provide a basic core human need—a safe and affordable place to live.” Although Steve has no previous work experience specific to the affordable housing arena, he and his wife lived in Section 8 subsidized housing early in his military career.
In addition to his board service at Piedmont Housing, Steve also serves on numerous state and regional boards and commissions. He holds an associate’s degree from George Washington University, a bachelor’s degree, in Health Care Services, from Southern Illinois University, and a master’s degree, in Heath Administration, from Baylor University.
