Kresge Foundation Awards Cville Organizations Grant through its Advancing Health Equity through Housing Initiative
Strides continue to be made on the low-income and affordable housing front in Charlottesville. In great news, on December 12 The Kresge Foundation’s Health Program announced that a collaboration of the five below local organizations was awarded a grant under its Advancing Health Equity through Housing Initiative (HEH).
- Piedmont Housing Alliance
- Charlottesville Redevelopment & Housing Authority
- Charlottesville Public Housing Association of Residents
- Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville
- UVA Equity Initiative
The HEH initiative seeks to identify practices that will improve health by connecting the housing and health sectors. Grantees were awarded either planning grants (for up to one year and up to $100,000 in grant support), or general operating support and programmatic grants (for up to two years, and up to $200,000 in grant support per year).
In collaboration with the partner organizations, Piedmont Housing is excited to be included among the 13 grantees as it looks to the future of affordable housing in the city of Charlottesville, Albermarle County and surrounding areas. Specifically, it plans to use the grant to focus on healthy equity related efforts, understanding that a person’s health is heavily impacted by a variety of social determinants.
In a press release, David Fukuzawa, managing director of Kresge’s Health and Human Services Programs, called the grantees’ ambition “simply phenomenal.”
“With this suite of investments, we are funding a wide arrayof approaches, including those that contribute to reductions in chronic housing-related health conditions such as asthma and diabetes, those that leadto an increased uptake of health and human services, those that advance soundpublic policy and those that activate community connectivity and cohesivenessthrough housing and health activities,” he said.
