Board of Directors Welcomes Two New Members
Geraldina Gonzalez and Roxanne Carter-Johnston recently joined our Board of Directors. Both new board members have a special interest in homeownership and desire to spread the word about opportunities for underserved groups in Charlottesville and beyond.
Meet Geraldina Gonzalez
Geraldina Gonzalez first encountered Piedmont Housing Alliance (Piedmont Housing) as a first-time homebuyer in 2017. She said she first heard about Piedmont Housing when she was in the process of buying a home and her mortgage lender referred her.
Ms. Gonzalez attended Piedmont Housing homebuyer classes. She also used our down payment assistance and low-interest mortgage allocation through the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) to purchase a home in Charlottesville’s Orangedale neighborhood.
She currently works full time as a server at Hamiltons’ and also works at Feast.
She said, “As an immigrant – we come to this country for opportunities that in our country are impossible…. My goal is to show [my daughter] that, as a single mom, I can do it. And if I can do it, it opens the possibilities for her.”
Meet Roxanne Carter-Johnston
Roxanne Carter-Johnston is a realtor with Nest Realty in Charlottesville, VA. She is a Charlottesville native and currently resides in Fluvanna. She is married to Cory Johnston, a local small business owner, and mother of three daughters.
When she is not busy with her realtor duties and spending time with her family, Mrs. Carter-Johnston enjoys volunteering throughout the community.
She currently serves on the Fluvanna County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, Fluvanna County Volunteers Advisory Committee and is involved with the Tandem Friends School Admissions Panel.
She was a co-chair of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce-hosted 2018 Quadruplicity women’s conference.
“I love the Charlottesville area and what I love more is supporting local businesses, and supporting our community through non-profit work, volunteerism, and donor giving. It’s my goal to “lead by example” and “be the change,” and my mission is to encourage others of all races, ages, backgrounds, and income levels that they have the right to homeownership,” says Carter-Johnston.
