Because America has the largest number of homeless women and children in the industrialized world.

A fellow board member on a local non-profit encouraged us to share the “why” of our board service in a compelling way.  That idea inspires me to start a series of blogs on Why We Do What We Do, aka #WWDWWD.

One of the reasons we do what we do at Piedmont Housing Alliance is that America, which is so great in so many ways, is NOT the greatest country in the world when it comes to addressing homelessness.  This article from the Atlantic talks about what is needed to improve that record.

Piedmont Housing is fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with the local Coalition for the Homeless and the Navigator at the Haven, who have brought clients to us who qualify for the affordable apartments that our property management team, Alliance Management, manages here in Charlottesville and in Albemarle County.  Helping people into affordable homes is our bread and butter here at Piedmont Housing Alliance, and it is particularly satisfying when we help someone believe again that there is a place for them to call home.
