Is Housing Health Care? Take 2.
The homelessness advocacy community has been generating a lot of really interesting data lately. Not unexpectedly, much of it goes to support the conclusion that permanent housing is the solution to the homelessness problem.
Some of those advocates are taking the next step, to say that the government will get more for its health care money if some of it is used to house the homeless.Those living in permanent housing get more regular and preventive care and thus are less often in the emergency room. This creates a big savings in health care dollars.
States are taking a number of approaches to using Medicaid dollars for housing expenses. Read more in the Huffington Post online.
