No free lunch, but plenty of free classes
Each February, Piedmont Housing Alliance starts its ten-month schedule of free monthly classes. On the first Wednesday of each month, our counseling staff is initiating our “Clash of Cash” series, focusing on money management issues that many of us confront: maintaining good credit, learning to save, avoiding predatory lenders, determining if you’re ready for home ownership among them. These classes take place at C’ville Coffee and the Friendship Court Community Center. CLICK HERE to read about the series.
On the second and third Wednesdays, we offer the First Time Homeowners Class at the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors (CAAR) office at 550 Hillsdale Drive next to the Food Lion. Using the curriculum from the Virginia Housing Development Authority, we lead two classes, each three hours, and go through the nuts and bolts of becoming a home buyer. Completing these classes (both of them!) make it possible for income-eligible home buyers to access the down payment assistance that Piedmont Housing administers.
