Cassie Templeton, a UVA medical employee, lived with a roommate for four years until she realized she was ready for a big change and her own independence.  Cassie learned about Piedmont Housing Alliance from the organization’s local partner, TowneBank Mortgage. She started looking for a home in Charlottesville close to her employment, but soon realized that she could better afford a home outside of town. Cassie said, “My goal was to get all of my bills paid off so I would have no debt left whatsoever,” said Cassie.  “I just wanted to be on my own.”  She worked with Virginia Leary, a Piedmont Housing Alliance’s housing counselor, to get on better financial ground and qualify for an affordable mortgage loan.  “Virginia was really helpful, giving me guidance and counseling along the way.”  After much determination, taking classes for first-time homebuyers and looking at many homes, Cassie ultimately found her ideal house in Fluvanna County.  On becoming a homebuyer, Cassie said, “Don’t be discouraged with the process. It takes a while, but now I’ve found the perfect place for me!”
