Jennifer Grissom Buys Her First Home in Louisa County

In her thirties and expecting her second child, Jennifer decided it was time to make a move to become a homeowner.  Jennifer, who works as a patient care assistant at UVa, grew up in the country and knew that’s where she wanted to stay, to be close to family and friends. Once she made the decision to buy her first home, Jennifer admits she was nervous about it but knew it was something she wanted to do. So, she began the process.

Jennifer was living with her boyfriend when she made the first contact with Piedmont Housing Alliance, having been referred by her cousin who works with the Virginia Housing Development Authority in Richmond.  Jennifer had an initial conversation with Marcella Johnson of Towne Bank Mortgage.  Marcella then introduced Jennifer to a housing counselor at Piedmont Housing Alliance where Jennifer was able to start working on her credit-worthiness and becoming mortgage-ready.  That process took about five months.

Quickly afterwards, Jennifer started looking for her dream home.  She found a place in Louisa that was perfect, but after just one week of the home being listed, it was snatched up.  Jennifer described the place to her realtor who told her to be patient.  She kept looking for other homes, but most of them were out of her price range.

Then, a few weeks later, she got a call from her realtor who told her the contract had fallen through.  Jennifer immediately got excited about possibly turning that first home she looked at into her home.  After a few more weeks of working together with several partners to finalize the details, Jennifer and her family were planning their move into the house.

Jennifer said, “Everyone I worked with throughout the process was great and was really able to break it down for me.”

By May, they were able to close and move in just before her daughter Kinsley was born.  Now, Jennifer, her boyfriend Josh, their newborn, Kinsley and her other daughter Megan are all getting settled into their place that they call home.

Congratulations to all!
